From the rector's desk
Tomorrow (January 11) is the Feast of Holy Innocents. Well, it can be (celebrated feels like the wrong word) attended?, either on January 11 or December 28. This story is found in the second chapter of Matthew's Gospel (v. 13-18) and we tend to ignore or pass over it. It's not a nice part of the Jesus story. As our book, 'For All the Saint's ' puts it, 'it is the story of an atrocity'. But I think it is important that we don't gloss over the hard parts of our story. Life, and our faith and the story of Jesus are full of beautiful and of heartbreaking and terrible stories. To over look the hard ones is to pretend that this isn't true. And I wonder if, particularly this year, as the people in Gaza continue to be under attack and as Israeli hostages continue to be held, we need to pay attention to the terrible stories too. Innocent people, innocent children continue to be killed in the persuit of land and power. By remembering this feast day, we acknowledge the complicated truth of our lives and the world. We acknowledge that as people who follow Christ, we will not look away from victims of injustice and war. We raise our voices in the persuit of peace and justice and we seek, to the best of our ability, to be the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. So, I offer this collect which I invite you to pray tomorrow. You might even consider lighting a candle and offering a prayer of your own. Almighty God, whose children suffered at the hands of Herod, recieve, we pray, all innocent victims into the arms of your great mercy. Frustrate all evil designs and establish your reign of justice, love and peace; through Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
With gratitude for our ministry together, Marnie |

Transforming the QuestionsAn online Christian Formation Course beginning January 18th
This is a course for those exploring faith for the 1st or the 50th time; adults preparing for baptism, confirmation, reception into the Anglican Church, or reaffirmation of baptismal vows. In 11 sessions, we seek to move deeper by engaging in some of faith’s most basic questions: Who is Jesus? How should we read the Bible? Why is there suffering? Participants gather for prayer, watch a video presentation, and then join in small-group discussion. Through listening and sharing, all will wrestle with these foundational questions in each other's company. As we do so, we will learn more about ourselves, one another, and the Jesus we are seeking.
